Hillsboro R-3 GATE Students go to Space Camp!

Early on a cold Friday morning, fifteen sixth graders from the Hillsboro R-3 GATE program made their way to Huntsville, Alabama, to participate in Space Camp! Highlights from the trip included experiencing 1/6th gravity in a moon walk simulator, building and launching rockets, spinning in the multi-axis trainer, participating in a CSI experience, and riding Space Shot to experience true G-Force. The culminating experience on the trip was the mission to fly Space Shuttle Atlantis. Students each had a role in the mission in either the Space Station, the Orbiter, or Mission Control. The students stayed at Space Camp from Friday until Sunday and the weekend was packed with learning in math, science, and technology. The biggest lessons learned were teamwork, goal-setting, and believing that anything is possible.  (You can read testimonials from students here on page 12.)
